While I was at rehearsal for a theater fundraiser yesterday, I got an e-mail that I just have to share with you. I receive a lot of these notices and rarely run with them on Sketchy Details. They normally read as some kind of form mass-email blast with no thought put into demographics or even subject of the website. I can guarantee you I've never shared a Kickstarter project, for example, where I randomly started receiving dozens of e-mails a week about game sticks or motion action comics. This e-mail was different. It was personal. The representative for the film mentioned my movie coverage and preference for cult films. He identified himself and even gave actual contact information. That's the difference between me deleting a message straight away and actually looking into the content. If I can run with it in a way that interests me, I post about it. It's as simple as that.
Steven Seagal's action/crime drama film Deadly Crossing (aka True Justice), originally a two part series for Reelz Channel, gets its first US home release this Tuesday, 14 May, at Redbox.

The bigger draw of the promo effort is a photo contest on Facebook. Called "Are You Tough as Seagal?," entrants are asked to submit their "deadliest action pose" for popular votes. The winners receive a wide variety of Steven Seagal-related merchandise, including signed weapon replicas, martial arts equipment, and Deadly Crossing merchandise. Every prize is signed by Seagal.
There actually aren't that many entries right now so there's a good chance you could win. You get extra votes if you get your Facebook friends to submit photos as well. I personally won't be entering since I'm only as tough as pre-Sons of Anarchy Katey Sagal.
This whole thing is just a fun and silly marketing campaign and it hit me right. I mean, one of the top photos right now is a man facing off against a dog wearing one of his martial arts training outfits. There's a level of self-awareness I didn't expect when I was contacted about this and I really appreciate it. It's just about having a good time.
