Listen: Alexandra Stan "Mr. Saxobeat"

After Thursday's post about a great beat with a horrid vocal, I thought it would be nice to point out a dance track that actually gets everything right. Alexandra Stan is a twenty year old Romanian artist experiencing great international dance success right now. Her first three singles have all been licensed for international distribution on YouTube, a smart move by her record label. She collaborates with music producers Marcel Prodan and Andrew Nemirschi to make great dance music.

Her most successful single in the US so far is "Mr. Saxobeat." Imagine what you think a dance song like that would sound like. Good. Now you know what to expect as we go on. It's a dance song with digital drums, synth bass, and sequencing that features a great saxophone riff. It's a real saxophone, too; woodwind sampling doesn't sound nearly that good yet. You can fake a good string or piano with a computer but not a saxophone.

The vocal is repetitive in the way a good dance song should be. It's instantly recognizable and you can start singing along by the second verse. It's a high energy track with a cool groove to it. I say it's worth a listen and maybe even a download. I could see big things coming from Alexandra Stan in a few years. She's on trend for the genre without copying everyone else. It's refreshing.
